JF Quality incorporates JF Metalwork.
We are a family business who provide a metal restoration, fabrication and blasting (shot blasting and vapour blasting) service for residential, commercial and automotive customers around Reading and beyond.
We have more recently expanded into creating custom metal work - arts, sculpture and furniture using new and recycled materials.
Metalworking has always been an interest, with JF's great-grandfather being the village blacksmith and farrier in Bradfield Southend, a village situated between Reading and Newbury in rural Berkshire. Although some equipment we use today owes a lot to technology, some of the tools of the trade haven't changed much in the last century or so and we like to make use of both modern and traditional methods. We do use the old anvil from time to time but our latest purchases would have a turn of the century metalworker scratching their heads, as we utilise vapour blasting and ultrasonic bathing techniques for our most delicate work.
If you ring us wanting to talk about the specifics of your metal project, a custom metal work project or restoration, or what kind of fabrication and blasting you require, you'll most likely be talking to James.
A creative, and a musician - his attention to detail is always apparent in whatever he is doing. A lifelong love of metalwork has developed into the metal arm of the business, where the problem solving skills and technical experience he developed as a motor vehicle technician, carpenter and electrician are still all coming in useful.
Creating and running your own business doesn't often leave a lot of downtime, but when he's not sketching the latest horseshoe art design or lighting wiring diagram, James can be found at the lake, in search for a carp or two, playing the piano, cornet or flugelhorn, or just kicking back and watching tv - usually something practical!
If you receive an email, a typed works estimate or an invoice, or you're reading content on this site, Facebook, Instagram or anywhere else, then there's an extremely high chance that Sarah has written it.
Supporting James with all elements of business admin, and fielding enquiries, Sarah can most often be found in the study, although she does do a good line in collecting items from suppliers and delivering them to site so as not to break the flow of 'the do-er'!
Her real passion lies in crafts, and Sarah loves to crochet, sew and work with vinyl to create designs on glass, metal and wood - she is often found daydreaming about custom metal work and fabric collaborations which she would then photograph and write about here - so watch this space! Speaking of watching - her tv interests range from box sets to practical shows, and audiobooks accompany her on some extremely long walks when she gets the chance - longest so far was a continuous 100k along the Thames Path.
Mr E Tinker, or Tinky to his friends, is a constant source of entertainment in the study. A housecat who rules us all with an iron paw, he opens doors, moves paperwork and sits on anything he pleases.
His greatest interests are his biscuit ball and water fountain, and any cables or wires left around will get the Tinky treatment. If you ever spot any typos, Sarah would like to take this opportunity to officially blame the cat for (probably) walking across the keyboard at an inopportune time.
The cat, however, offers no apology.
